So much abstraction of thought in the pictorial-figurative path of Simone Geraci.
A combination that seems paradoxical but the balance of the two issues is the
element that distinguishes all the work of the Palermo’s artist. Geraci's rooms of
thought are inhabited by figures who consecrate it to life and matter. The
monochrome is the multiplication that cancels spaces, as in the rule of canceling
algebraic expressions.
Monochrome is zero and space, multiplied by
monochrome, will always give monochrome. Substantial is, in my opinion, how
Geraci dwells and analyzes the space element with a methodology that recalls
that of "Pittura-Pittura"(Painting-Painting) which in the seventies was not
considered fully by militant critics, committed to reviewing other movements
who appeared more provocateurs and contestants than parallel cultural
events. Geraci's conscious doing can be defined as experimental but not
anarchist, tied to a tradition but not academic, a language that analyzes the
prenatal state of painting. Quoting Pino Pinelli: It refers to an anxious state of
painting, where accurate and obsessive analysis leads to new sounds. Obviously,
citing this context, the paradox mentioned above is even more tangible since
Pinelli, like all analytical artists, never included a figurative element in his
research. Simone Geraci argues space with a resilient approach, the figurative
element is called to find a location.
The figures react to a pictorial research that
aims at the result of painting itself, the result of painting as such. As in Echos,
works in oil on slate, the female figure in the foreground breaks into space,
loading with it a possible dissociation between signifier and meaning.
Simone,
therefore, stages the rooms of a monochrome thought through figurative
evidence of being here and now - "Hic et Nunc".
